St. George Regional Airport (SGU) is the closest major airport to Mount Carmel, Utah, located approximately 87 miles away.
It serves as a regional airport with domestic flights operated by American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and United Airlines, connecting to cities like Denver, Phoenix, Salt Lake City, and Los Angeles. The airport is a key gateway for travelers visiting southern Utah attractions, including Zion National Park, Bryce Canyon National Park and Grand Canyon.
Las Vegas Harry Reid International Airport (LAS), located about 196 miles southwest of Mount Carmel, is a major international airport offering extensive domestic and global flight options.
It is a popular choice for travelers due to its wide range of flights and competitive pricing, it requires a 3 or so hour drive to reach Mount Carmel. Las Vegas is known as a fun place to see some shows and do a little gambling if so inclined.
Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC), approximately 312 miles northeast of Mount Carmel, is a major hub for Delta Air Lines and other carriers, providing access to numerous domestic and international destinations.
It is often used by travelers seeking broader flight connectivity and the drive down scenic highway 89 is magnificent.
All three airports serve the region, but St. George Regional Airport is the most convenient regional option for Mount Carmel, offering shorter travel times & direct access to Arrowhead Country Cabins & southern Utah’s natural attractions.
- Mount Carmel is the cooler side of Zion National Park. On the flip side, we might be warm while Bryce is still chilly. Being located in the middle has its perks for sure!
- The average weather during the daytime in Mount Carmel is about 10-13 degrees cooler than St. George in the summer months, but it can still get warm.
- We suggest bring layers of clothes just in case and depending on the time of year.
- Every direction you head from Arrowhead has a different weather so please plan accordingly.
- The average range can be anywhere from “0” degrees to “100” degrees depending on the month and time of day. Please be prepared for fluctuating weather when traveling the mountains and deserts of Southern Utah.
The above chart are weather averages from weatherworld .com for 2014-2024
We recommend you be prepared for all sorts of weather variations. Mt. Carmel, the National Parks and the surrounding areas are all in different elevations, therefore each can experience completely different weather on the same day.
- FALL: dress for warm and cool/cold weather.
- WINTER: dress for cool/cold weather.
- SPRING: dress for warm and cool/cold weather.
- SUMMER: dress for warm/hot weather.

There is nothing set in stone making any one month better than another, but we do have information to increase your chances of being able to experience the area at the most comfortable times.
Keep in mind the entire “Color Country” area is awesome to see at basically ANY time of the year.
Please note:
Although the below graph doesn’t show it “Arrowhead tends to be busiest in May and September”.
*July and August tend to be less busy tourist months for the area (Arrowhead closes for the winter season typically November 1 – March 31). We decide this yearly depending on advance interest.
Tip: the end of October is usually a very nice time to visit, BUT if you plan on visiting the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, please note: services stop on about Oct. 15th. The end date for services doesn’t mean the roads are closed, just the services wouldn’t be available. “Typical” complete closure of the North Rim is usually around the beginning of December, weather permitting. See below for more info.
No, we are only open seasonally. Typically, we are open April 1st through October 31st.

YES, people ARE allowed to drive through Zion National Park via Highway 9 on their own without the shuttle —The Shuttle is only needed to go up the scenic area canyon (called Zion Canyon), BUT the main road (Highway 9) is open for travel in personal vehicles year round. For information about the shuttle and Zion see: https://www.nps.gov/zion/planyourvisit/zion-canyon-shuttle-system.htm.
One of the great things about Zion is you drive your own vehicle through the majority of the park. The east entrance is about 18 minutes from Arrowhead Country Cabins:) Upon entering Zion National Park from the east side it is about 29 minutes through to the other side (traffic depending and it is an absolutely incredible drive). In Springdale (southwest side) you can board a shuttle and go up to the awesome off-shoot canyon (called Zion Canyon). Zion National Park and Zion Canyon are different, although both are the park if that makes sense.

Yes, ***Please be aware the parking in Springdale has a charge also***
Here is the Zion & Springdale Parking Notice from the NPS and the town of Springdale:
“Please park legally and responsibly in Zion National Park and the Town of Springdale.
Zion National Park has limited parking space. Please park only in designated stalls. Vehicles parked outside of designated stalls are subject to citation and may be towed.
Once all designated parking stalls in Zion are full, visitors should park in the town of Springdale and ride the shuttle to access the Park.
There is a charge for parking in the Town of Springdale. The pay stub for parking in town is not a Park entrance pass. Similarly, a Park entrance pass is not a town parking validation. Thank you for parking responsibly during your visit.”

Yes, we provide complimentary Wi-Fi to our Guests.
Our Guests frequently tell us “they wish they had known to stay longer”. Often once our Guests arrive and get settled in they start to really see the possibilities. Arrowhead is your perfect base camp for the area. We are located between three national parks and many other great sights and destinations along the way.
Because Arrowhead’s location enables you to head in a different direction every day to explore the three national parks and so many other great places all around we could tell you “stay as long as you can”, but since that is not a very good answer we will instead suggest to you “stay at least 3 nights if you can”. That way even if you don’t have time to make extra stops and check out the other neat places along the way, you can at least take a day at each national park or perhaps choose a couple of the other awesome sights to visit for a day.
Some of the other sights and destinations from Arrowhead include the gorgeous glowing dunes at sunset of the Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park (about 20 minutes from Arrowhead), or head over to take a boat ride on the blue waters of Lake Powell and see Horseshoe Bend (WOW- only about 1 hour away) or the breathtaking overview of Cedar Breaks National Monument (about 1 hour from Arrowhead) or for our extra adventurous Guests try the dirt roads of the Grand Escalante National Monument (about 25 minutes from Arrowhead). There are many more sights and destinations besides these mentioned here.
Although, 3 days could give you enough time to get a great glimpse of many of the area’s most famous attractions, perhaps staying at Arrowhead for a week would better enable you to take in more of the lessor known but awesome sights of the area too.
We offer a 10% Discount for reservations of 7 Nights or more.
GPS and cell phones may not always work properly in the remote areas of the great west. Please bring a hard copy map of the area with you on your trip and have Arrowhead’s location pin- pointed before you head out. Cell phones typically work at Arrowhead, but may not always work when traveling through the mountainous areas to the parks.
Yes, a deposit of 50% of entire stay is taken upon reservation (100% may be charged if stay is one night only). Mastercard, Visa, American Express, Discover Card, Travelers checks or Money Orders accepted. The second half is charged closer to check-in (usually a day or two before). Please let us know if the payment method or credit card you are using is changing “in advance”.
No, we do not accept pets. We have an operating farm on the property for your viewing enjoyment though. Please note: evidence of pets staying in the cabin will be cause to require Guest to immediately leave and forfeit entire reservation costs, also a $300 pet Cleaning Fee will be imposed and charged to the credit card on file.
We do accept Service Animals per ADA rules and Utah state rules (see below definitions and if your animal qualifies see ADA and Utah Legislation websites for more specific details):
https://www.ada.gov/resources/service-animals-2010-requirements/
How “Service Animal” Is Defined per ADA
Service animals are defined as dogs that are individually trained to do work or perform tasks for people with disabilities. Examples of such work or tasks include guiding people who are blind, alerting people who are deaf, pulling a wheelchair, alerting and protecting a person who is having a seizure, reminding a person with mental illness to take prescribed medications, calming a person with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) during an anxiety attack, or performing other duties. Service animals are working animals, not pets. The work or task a dog has been trained to provide must be directly related to the person’s disability. Dogs whose sole function is to provide comfort or emotional support do not qualify as service animals under the ADA.
This definition does not affect or limit the broader definition of “assistance animal” under the Fair Housing Act or the broader definition of “service animal” under the Air Carrier Access Act.
Some State and local laws also define service animal more broadly than the ADA does. Information about such laws can be obtained from the relevant State attorney general’s office.
Also see specific Utah Service Animal definitions and rules here:
https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title26B/Chapter6/26B-6-S801.html
We love our animals and want you to be able to enjoy looking at them. Unfortunately, Guests may NOT feed the farm animals, unless given specific permission to do so by the management. Farm animals may be prone to sickness or even death if fed things not in their approved diet. Petting the farm animals is allowed as long as our Guests do not enter the animal corrals to do so AND Guests are hereby warned: petting the animals is at our Guest’s own risk. Animals can be unpredictable and the Guest must be aware of that before approaching an animal or allowing children to approach an animal. Make sure and pay attention to warning signs. Handwashing after visiting an animal area even if you didn’t pet them is highly suggested.

After days of trekking through National Parks and Monuments, you might like to stay a little closer to the home base for a day and take a hike to the beautiful White Cliffs of the Elkhart Mountains, the stunning backdrop to Arrowhead Country Inn. There is not a “set” trail for this adventurous, beautiful hike. The dry washes leading up to the White Cliffs are normally used as the trails. Before you can begin your trek, you will need to cross a creek. Please be prepared to get your feet wet. After crossing the creek follow one of the dry washes that wind through meadows and juniper trees on the way to spectacular sandstone slot canyons at the base of the White Cliffs (note: some of the trails are blocked by fencing now).
We provide in the gift shop/bakery a great folder with many “Lessor Known Things To Do In The Area.” Come and see it up at the gift shop if you’d like.
Head back to Arrowhead and take a tour of the historic summer home and studio of famous western artist Maynard Dixon, as well as the Bingham Art Gallery, both just across the street from Arrowhead. See the White Cliffs from the gallery’s picture windows, and see a variety of artists’ renditions of the White Cliffs on canvas.
Q: What hikes do we recommend in the parks?
Each National Park provides a pamphlet at the entrance upon entry. In these pamphlets is a map and list of trails. The list includes the length of the trails and the difficulty level of each. Since each person, each circumstance and each person’s abilities can vary greatly we recommend you review the park’s information about each trail.
Also please take into account the variables, such as weather and physical ability of your group’s members. Each park has easy trails, medium trails and hard trails.
I cannot think of any trail option which I have had the pleasure of hiking on at any of the surrounding parks which is not extremely neat and exciting!
The National Park official web-sites also give some information about their trails:
Zion: ttp://www.nps.gov/zion/planyourvisit/things2do.htm
Bryce: https://www.nps.gov/brca/planyourvisit/index.htm
